| United States to Berlin: Depart the United States on your overnight flight to Berlin.

| Arrive in Berlin: Meet your tour guide outside of baggage claim. En route to the hotel, enjoy a tour of this reunited city highlighting: Brandenburg Gate; the remains of the Berlin Wall; the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Memorial Church; Potsdam Square; Alexander Square; St. Nikolai-Viertel; Berlin Cathedral; and Charlottenburg Palace. A welcome dinner will be held at our hotel this evening. |
| Berlin to Halle: Morning departure for Lutherstadt in Wittenberg where Martin Luther lived and taught for 36 years. Visit Castle Church (Schlosskirche), upon whose door Luther posted his 95 Theses in 1517, giving birth to the Reformation. This church is where Luther is buried. You will also see the university where he taught and Luther House (Lutherhalle), which is the greatest museum of Reformation History in the world. At Luther House, in the room occupied by Luther from 1508 to 1546, are Luthers writings, prints, medals, pulpit from St Marys Church and a number of valuable pictures. Continue on to Leipzig, where Johann Sebastian Bach lived and worked during his career. Visit the Bach Museum, once the home of the Bach family and St. Thomas Church, where Bach was choir master and organist. (He is buried in front of the altar in this church.) Your last stop of the day is Halle, the birthplace of George Frideric Handel, to see the Market Church, where he composed “The Messiah”. (Martin Luther’s body rested here overnight en route to Wittenberg.) |
| Halle to Erfurt: This morning you leave for Lutherstadt Eisleben, Luther’s place of birth and death, now a museum which houses one of the first translated German Bibles. Dinner and overnight in Erfurt tonight, where Luther studied law at the University in the early 1500s. |
| Today travel to the town of Eisenach to visit the birthplace of Johann Sebastian Bach. After a brief stop continue on to the town of Wurzburg, a lovely baroque city, for a free evening and overnight. |
| Wurzburg to Heidelberg: This morning you travel to Heidelberg. On the way, stop at the best-preserved medieval city in Europe, Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Visit the Kriminalmuseum or go shopping at the Weihnachtdorf (Christmas Village) in the Market Square. Locally made toys, Christmas ornaments and cuckoo clocks are featured here. Heidelberg is one of the few German Cities not leveled by World War II. It’s beauty still remains in the original buildings from the later Middle Ages and the early Renaissance. Take a city tour and visit the castle. |
| There will be some free time to enjoy Heidelberg before boarding the coach and heading to Worms for the afternoon. In 1521, Martin Luther appeared here before the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, and refused to recant his beliefs. Visit the site of the Diet of Worms, the Dom St. Peter, and the Luther memorial near the town square. Return to Heidelberg for dinner and overnight. |
| This morning travel to Mainz, visiting St. Stephan Church and see the famous Chagall Windows. Also visit the Gutenberg Museum where the goldsmith Gutenberg applied his skills to printing. The museum provides a demonstration of Gutenberg’s printing techniques and also displays one of his original 47 Bibles. Travel on to the resort town of Wiesbaden, which is located on the right bank of the Rhine, for a free afternoon and overnight. This area has been known for its hot springs since the Roman times. Enjoy a group farewell dinner tonight. |
